The more spreaded a name is, the more variants it has, in spelling and, obviously, in pronunciation.
For instance, Biblical names (in the sense of Old Testament, but also New Testament) are more spreaded that Greek names because of the Evangelization; many languages have versions of the Biblical names (because the Bible has been translated to them) but have not versions of the Greek names because they have not had interaction with the classical Greek world. Take Miriam and you will see that it has much more variations (in spelling and pronunciation) that Alexander.
