Carsten
Hi, I'm new here. First I want to say thanks for this site. It's a great resource, probably the best on the 'net! Secondly, I was looking at German names and became intrigued by this Carsten. I see that you list it as the German version of Christian. But when I enter "Christian" into German-English dictionaries online, they say the German is "christlich."
Could you maybe point me in the direction of some more background on this name? There doesn't seem to be much on the web, and I don't remember seeing it anywhere else. I'd like to know more about it.
Thanks!

Hi Melanie,
Karsten (spelling variant Carsten) is a Low German version of Christian. The name Christian is used in Germany as well (German pronunciation: CHRIS-tee-yahn).
The name is quite common in the north of Germany and in Denmark but not so common in the south of Germany and in Austria and Switzerland.

My Brother-In-Law is named Carsten. And I'm Danish so it is also a Danish name.
