Masumi is a common Japanese girls' name. I'm sure it's not the name you are referring to, but if you see Masumi, it may be Japanese rather than a variation of the Bengali name.

It was nice to know that it is a Japanese name, however, my query was satisfactorily answered by Mr. Anonymous. There are some names which sound alike but have different meanings in different places like the one "Lovely" It could be an English name as well as a Sanskrit one which means a particular creeper plant.
