Previous usage?
I have just found out that my cousin’s boyfriend's full name is Bernardin! Everyone calls him Din and I always thought that his full name was just Dino.I have seen Bernard and Bernardo, but never this form. Is anyone familiar with it or has any info about usage?

Bernardin (in the form Bernardino) is usual in Spanish and especially in Italian, because of the devotion to saint Bernardin of Siena (1380-1444), franciscan (name day May 20th).The use of the name, originally a diminutive form with the diminutive suffix -ino, is documented in Italy since the Early Middle Ages (5th c.-11th c.) in the Latinized form Bernardinus.
