I have been looking for the meaning of the names Isabeau on this site but can not find it. It is mentioned in the movie Lady Hawk and in a series of books i have been reading. I think that it could possibly be scottish, irish or french...i am pretty sure that it is just another version of isabell, but am not so sure now that i can not find it. please help.
thank you.

Isabeau is the French Middle Ages version of Isabelle. It is not the male version. Names ending in "o" for women were very fashionables a that time: Mahaut, Brunehaut (French form of Brunhild)...

It is a French form of Isabel, as is Isabelle, but because of Scottish connections with France it was brought to Scotland and confused with the Gaelic spelling Isibeal (ish-i-beel) or Iseabal. Another favorite form besides Isabeau is Ilsabeth.
