How is the name Viggo, as in Viggo Mortenson, pronounced? I thought that it was pronounced the way it looks- Vig-go- but for some reason that seems to be wrong and it is not. Anyone know?

Just kidding, I'm a married woman you know ;o) Hmmm....I'd 'draw' it Ve-go...sort of to rhyme with 'we go' see Viggo.

but in between the two (avoiding the pitfall of VEH-go..he's not vegan ;o)
It's rather like my husband's grandfather - Stivo. The I is more like an E but not like the E in Jen or Zoe either one...a middle of nowhere sort of e sound LOL

Viggo is pronounced vi-go in Danish (the i being longer than in Tim but shorter than in Lisa). The stress is on the first syllable.
It is a latinized form of Old Norse names containing Vig- / -vig which means battle and it's a latinization of the Old Norse name Vöggr as well which means to rock/sway (alluding to a person's rolling gait).
