It looks to be like it might be a "Yiddishized" short form of Shoshana, but that is just a wild guess.

Sounds unikely to me, since it's close to shoah, ie the Jewish Holocaust.

Well, that all depends on how old the person with the name is, I'd guess. When did "shoah" become the common word for the holocaust in the Jewish community?
