Origin and meaning of Solayka
Hi everyone
Is there anyone that can help me around with the name Solayka?
I've been told it's russian, however I haven't found any proof of that either.
I'd be grateful on any information you can give.

Can you please tell me the meaning of the name 'Kargesh'.
My first idea was SULEIKA, an Arab name of unknown meaning. In the Islamic tradition, Suleika was the name of the wife of Potiphar, the woman who tried to seduce Joseph. Goethe used the name for his collection of poems "West-östlicher Divan," imspired by the translation of poems by the Persian poet Hafis.
It might possibly be a Russian form of Salacia.
Maybe another form of Suleika?
Ah yes, the phonetic form looks indeed the same.
Thanks alot for the help.

Just because they sound or are spelled the same is in no way an indication of the common origin of the name. How in the world did the name get to be used in Russia if its Arabic. Cultural and social aspects as well as geographical must be considered. It doesnt make sense that its in any way Arabic. Solayka could be from slavic word for power (sila) or salt (sol) while -ika/yka or -iyka/ayka is a common diminutive ending in Slavic names (cf. Serb. Milojika, Milojka, Sojka, Slavujka - 'j' pronounced as the eng. 'y').
