Re: English names

If your description of your school project is accurate this seems to me to be a somewhat strange project, and I doubt that the one giving it to you was aware about how difficult this is.There were so many connections between the various early Germanic tribes, and all this happened so long ago, that for most names there will be no "hard" information to prove that the Anglo-Saxons or the Jutes really invented/started the name, with other tribes merely borrowing it, and not the other way round.Anyway, just going back far enough even the differences between the languages of these tribes begin to blur! And to ask for names of Jutes origin, when there even seems to be uncertainty about the origin of this tribe and when and where they really lived - oh my!You can go to the homepage of this site, to
http://www.behindthename.com/
enter "Saxon" as the search term and choosing the radio box "Search for words in description", or look at this particular page:
http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/eng-anci.phpYou will certainly notice how few names this will give.
