wondered if anyone could shed any light on an unusual first name that appear in my family tree?

Did they have a connection with India? There is a famous city, தஞ்சாவூர், in Southern India and a school of painting named after it. The city name (Thanjavur or Tanjore) means city of tanja, but I do not offhand know the etymology of the latter (though the mythology is familiar).
