Can't find it anywhere
I have been searching the web for anything that will help me to get an idea of what the female name CLIVIA means. I have found several botanical sites that explain about the plant, how to grow them, etc., but I am looking for an actual meaning. I was once told that it was a Hungarian name but have never found anything to back that up. Any help would be appreciated.Regards,
Clivia

CliviaThe name Clivia was given to an ornamental genus of plants by John Lindley (1799-1865) to compliment Lady Clive, the Duchess of Northumberland. By the rules of nomenclature the pronunciation of Clivia should be pronounced with a long "í" (Clí-via) following the name Clive which it commemorates.Hence, Clivia has the same meaning as the English place name/surname Clive (which can be found in this database), essentially it means 'cliff' or 'one who lives near the cliff' or since it is a flower, 'flower that grows on the cliff' (although that would be inaccurate because Clivias generally don't grow in cliff-type areas).
