my name
My first name is Monetta from both of my grandmothers---MOdena and JaNETTA but I have read that it is actually a Greek word meaning money. Anybody know for sure? Thanks Mone

Latin, not Greek, to my knowledge.Juno was the wife of Jupiter, king of the gods, in Roman mythology, and one of her jobs was to give advice and warnings ... there was a temple in Rome dedicated to her and called the temple of Juno Moneta; our word "admonish" is related to it. And the cellars of that temple were used for storing the coins and bullion used to pay the army - which is where our word "money" comes from. It's undoubtedly got nothing to do with your name, apart from being an interesting coincidence. All the best

I think "moneta" is Latin for "coin," but resident Greek Pavlos will tell you whether it's used in Greece.

Since your name is a combo of Modena and Janetta, your name would have a combo of their meanings.Unfortunately, I can't find Modena. Perhaps someone else on this board has an answer for that name.Janetta's an elaboration of Jane.If you weren't named for your grandmothers, I'd wager Monetta was an elaborated form of Monet.Miranda
