Message: "Makanah" - Behind the Name

I met a woman several days ago with this name. She was about 65 years old and pronounced it ma-KAH-na. I truly regret not asking her about her name. :-(

Does anyone have a clue as to the origin and meaning?

The name Makana is a Polynesian name meaning "gift". I suspect Makanah may be another spelling but can't be sure.
