I recently came across the male name Belus on a Greek mythology website. He was a Heraclide and the father of the founder of the Assyrian city of Nineveh. Does anyone know if the name is really Greek and what it means? TIA.

Belus is the Latinized form of the Greek name Belos, which is ultimately a translation of Ba'al (you can click on the name link for the meaning):
