meaning of NANCY
Over the yrs., I have received several bookmarkers with my name and it says that Nancy means "grace."
My son and his wife are expecting a baby and are going to name her Haley Grace.
Do given names truly have a meaning and how do you find out?
If anyone has a book with my name listed, I would love to know if this is true.
I do know that Nancy is another form of Ann, but that is all I can find out.
Thanks,
Nancy

Ann means "grace", so Nancy does indeed mean "grace".
Names were originally derived from words/particles of words, and since words have meanings, that's how names acquired their meanings.
For example, Haley is a variation of Hayley. Hayley was derived from the Old English words "heg", "hay", and "leah", "clearing". Therefore Hayley / Haley means "hay clearing".
