My sonand his wife have called their baby Verran which I understand is Cornish. Other than that I know nothing. Can anyone help on its origins? Thanks

That would be part of the reason I CHANGED my name.
Otherwise: What one uses in general conversation means nothing. Being perfectly correct in one's language solves nothing and the difference between gender and sex is irrelevant for the most part save for an academic setting.
