Variation of John
I believe like Ian, Sian (Welsh/Celtic) is a form of John.
Following family tradition of first son being named John...
we're looking for a variation. Our preference is Sian (pronounced Shan)...I'm finding it oftentimes considered a girls name. However, in a few other places it's a boy's name.Which is true?

Sion is the male equivalent of Sian.

I have never heard of Sian as a masculine form, but Sion is.

Hi... first time I've seen it spelled Sian... Sean's quite common and sensible though... Shane's another one... Both can be either for a girl or a boy, but more commonly a boy.

Sian and Sean aren't the same name. That's why you haven't seen it spelled that way before. :)

I believe you are thinking of Sean. Sian is a variant of Jane; the db says Jeanette, but Jane and Jeanette are variants of each other.
