Re: Penny/Penelope
I looked up the name of the lady I am dating because I wanted to write a poem to/about her. Her name was apparently derived from the name of a duck back in the days of the Greek. This site also references thread and woof whatever that means. Is there a Penny or Penelope out there who can shed a little more light on this name? I am having trouble writing something romantic in relation to a duck or thread.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I hate to break the news, but a *penelops* is a kind of duck with purple stripes. You could work on a psychedelic-themed poem in that vein, but only if she has a reasonable sense of humor.

Welcome back, pal!
Thankza, Anne!
I think you'll find the name came before the duck!
Look up the ancient Greek poem, the Odyssey, for a very interesting Penelope who stayed loyal to her missing husband for twenty years in spite of being, still, so beautiful that large numbers of men kept trying to change her mind. She kept herself busy by weaving cloth, which is where your thread/woof link comes in.
And, good luck!

Well, since the "woof" are the crosswise threads in weaving and the "warp" are the vertical threads, you could try something about her being the woof and you being the warp and your love weaving you together, maybe. :)
