Anyone know anything about the name Tanna?

I found Tanna as a male Hebrew name, rather common, meaning "doctor/scholar of the Michna". http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/talmud_&_mishna.html
For a girl, I thought of a pet form of Tania? Apart from the meaning listed here, it is also a Hebrew female name meaning "gift from G-d".

Hi Charlie Blue,
CKE is right, of course.
Just wanted to add that Tanna reminds me of the Danish name Tenna (the English pronunciation of Tanna sounds very much like the Danish pronunciation of Tenna).
Tenna is a Danish short form of Hortensia.

Thank you.
Tenna is not my style of name, since there's been a dog in the family named Tenna. So to me it's a dog name. And strange that it's the short form of Hortensia. But then again, Peggy comes from Margaret...
Thanks again. Now I'll go jump onto the site you have provided a link too, because I am curious about it. :-D

Tana and Tanna have both regularly turned up as given names in the USA for a couple of generations now. Their origin is obscure but the best guess may be that they are arbitrary alterations of Tanya.
Great. Thank you so much. :-D
