Re: what does Dahon mean, and where does it come from?

Where did your parents find this name?
Dahon is certainly not the modern French word for "sunrise."
Dahon does not occur in Dauzat's Noms et Prenoms de France, but there are two surnames which are similar which do occur in that work. The first is Dahan, which Dauzat says was originally a nickname for a logger, from the exclamation "Ahan!" which French loggers employed in their work; the second is Dehon, which is a French variation of the surname DeHondt, which comes from a Flemish word meaning "dog" (related to the English word "hound.") But whether either of those French surnames is related to Dahon depends on where your parents found the name.
