what does Dahon mean, and where does it come from?
I have been told that my name is French and that it means sunrise. However, whenever I try to search for its meaning I find nothing. The only thing i do find is a Dahon.com that sells folding bikes. So, if anyone knows anything about my name a would like to share that would be great. Thanks,
Dahon

Dahon is a French Jewish surname, derived from the surname Dahan, Judeo Arabic for "painter" or "oil seller".

CK Evans is right - and I must add that the only way Dahon could mean Sunrise is if it's a creative spelling of Dawn. Which is possible.

Where did your parents find this name? Dahon is certainly not the modern French word for "sunrise." Dahon does not occur in Dauzat's Noms et Prenoms de France, but there are two surnames which are similar which do occur in that work. The first is Dahan, which Dauzat says was originally a nickname for a logger, from the exclamation "Ahan!" which French loggers employed in their work; the second is Dehon, which is a French variation of the surname DeHondt, which comes from a Flemish word meaning "dog" (related to the English word "hound.") But whether either of those French surnames is related to Dahon depends on where your parents found the name.
