Meaning or origin of the name Yahaira
Hello
I am trying to search the origin of my name Yahaira. I know that there a a few different spellings of this name for example
yahaira
jahaira
yajaira
jajaira
I heard that the names yanira, jadira were spin offs of this name as well. I have not been successful in finding any information. I am Puerto Rican and from NY. I know my mom and friends with the same names parents got our name from a spanish novela that aired in the 70's called Esmeralda. I have also met other yahaira's from Mexico, Nicaragua and a few other spanish countries. My dad says that it came from a Taino name but I can't find anything anywhere to substansiate this. Any help will be much appreciated.

I came across this post while also searching for more info on my name. My husband came across my name at a kiosk in the mall that sells name tablets. It said that the name is derived from the Native American root name "Yakecen" meaning "sky song". Not sure if that meaning is correct, but it's the only one I've come across. By the way, my mother said that she got my name from a spanish soap opera, also. Hope this helps.
Hello. I have heard many different versions of what the name means as well. Firstly, my mother told me she got my name from a Peruvian friend of hers, and that the name was of Inca origin. Unfortunately, the novela you mentioned came out 3 months after I was born, and suddenly my name wasn't so unique anymore.
I have heard the name is of Muslim origin, Hebrew origin, Inca origin, and Moorish (from the moorish occupation in Spain, then the Spaniard conquest of the Americas, and so on).
Depending on who in South America you speak to, either the name is very popular or no one has ever heard of it. I think the name is very popular in certain parts of Peru.
I hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Yahaira C

Thank you Yahaira C, I also saw the postsfrom your message board. You had 2 very different replies. I also went to the site that was mentioned in your board and didn't find the link between Yahaira and Yawahir that the man mentioned. It was informational though. My dad Said my name comes from the taino tribe as well as my middle name. He gave all my brothers and sisters taino names. I just can't find the information to back the claim up. I understand that back in the day of exploring the name just lie everything had the possibility of speading but wouldn't you be able to at least find a meaning and origin? Also with as many people who share our name... I am tired of not finding a cup with my name on it! LOL
Thank you
Thank you
