I think it's very true. We all associate names with various mental stereotypes, and I know that my mum as a teacher will look through her class list and try to guess which kids will be trouble (she's usually right).
I also REALLY wish the press would stop picking over the TES website. They're like vultures, always looking for a teacher making an 'innappropriate' or 'irresponsible' comment so they can plaster it all over the newspapers and watch parent's (and sometimes the Government's) horrified reactions. Teachers need occasions where they can let off steam, with other teachers who have had similar experiences, without the fear of a quote appearing in the Sun the next day. And 'disgusted' parents like the one quoted in the article should realise that teacher's aren't on duty all the time. She can't complain to the DfES because of a comment a teacher made on the internet, in their own time, whilst not at work. Would someone complain if an office worker, or a fireman, made a similar comment relevant to their own profession on an internet message board? I doubt it.
Sorry for the rant there, got a bit over the top!
