I have been searching for the origin and meaning of my Mother's middle name, Merneta. Mum was born in Coburg, Vic., Australia in 1917. Between 1897 and 1919 there were 9 people born in Victoria, 8 of them in the same area as Mum, all with the first or second name of Merneta. Eight were females and one was male. A search through the local Historical Society yielded no results. Contact with an American lady with the name Mernetta running through her family also yielded no results. I had heard that Merneta was the name of a Spanish wildflower but no luck on that score either. Any help on the origin and meaning of the name Merneta would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Di
