name meaning
i would like to know the meaning of this name It is a femmale name
Replies
I would say it is a pet form of Lula/Lulu, in the same fashion that Annie is a pet name for Anne/Anna, and Meggie is pet form of Megan, Steffi for Stephanie, Judy for Judith and so forth. I know several older women in my community called Lulie. Their given name is Lula however.
Lula and Lulu are themselves pet form of names like Louise, so the meaning of Lulie is still the same as Louise even if it's a nickname for Lula.
They could also be nicknames for Tallulah (click link)

What name are you after?
Lulie?
If so, Lulie means it is a female name, the origin is: German and the meaning is: Warrior maiden.
Hope this helps you out.

No, it doesn't . . .
Please cite your sources when you give meanings that are not in the BtN database - many sources are inaccurate and cannot be trusted.
Lulie can be used as a nickname for Louise. Louise is a feminine form of Louis, which is a form of Ludwig. Ludwig means "famous warrior"; therefore Lulie also means "famous warrior".
Click on any of the hyperlinks for more details.

That website is not an adequate source . . .
The vast majority of "baby" name sites are inaccurate. The origins and meaning given for Ludwig on this site are backed up by etymological explanations of the elements that make up the name, so it is easy to see where the meaning comes from. The website you've provided gives no information to back up its alleged meaning and makes no claims as to its accuracy.
Lulie comes ultimately from Ludwig, which is composed of hlud "fame" and wig "warrior". The meaning of Ludwig is also the meaning of Lulie. It is not difficult to see why trendy "baby name" sites would prefer to change Lulie's meaning to "warrior maiden" as it's a far nicer meaning for parents. But that doesn't make it true. There is no part of the name 'Lulie' that corresponds to any Germanic element meaning 'maiden', therefore it does not mean anything to do with 'maiden'.
I will let your rudeness go because you're just a newbie and clearly have no idea how this site works. But please take note for the future: this site and this board are about researched FACTS, not trendy meanings invented or corrupted by sites that want to attract baby-naming parents. Citing "baby name" websites in contradiction of established "Behind the Name" facts will get you scorn and ridicule, not respect.

Hello all.
Well looks like heated convo in here, but i have to agree with "Kylie" I have a baby naming book that my wife got.
And it has Lulie in it with the meaning of "warrior maiden"
The book is call "Choosing baby's name" Printed by Axiom Publishers in 1992.
I also go by that meaning as my wife is German and that it the name of our 15yr old son, Named after his German Grandfather, who was named after his father, Not to mention, my son's uncle is also named Lulie.
So you may like to also call me a "newbie" but for 3 generations the name Lulie has been passed down in a German family, but we must be wrong cause you know everything, right Chrisell??

Nice try, Kylie . . .
Take a look at your post, at that series of numbers next to the word 'guest'. That's what's called an IP number, and it tells the world which computer the message has been posted from.
Funnily enough, this "Marc" who's just appeared to defend you is using the same computer you're using. Convenient, huh.
Using a "sock puppet" is the oldest trick in the book, dear. You'll have to do better than that! Now quit being silly. It's not my fault you were wrong, and now you've gone and broken Rule #2 as well. You're not the first person to be told this by any means, but most people just accept that this board has standards, and get on with life, rather than throwing a hissy-fit because they can't have things their way.

1st off sweetheart, my name is Marc.. yeah i know kylie, not hard to when she is my daughter. What she stated to start with was right.
You need to face facts. i will scan the whole book if i must, but it clearly stated that Lulie means "warrior maiden".
I think i shoud know the meaning behind my own son's name.

So, you gave your son a name meaning "warrior maiden". Well done there. Not that I believe you for a second, since no-one I know who is old enough to have a teenage daughter is willing to come online late at night to defend their child in a silly internet squabble, let alone do it with such poor grammar.
But you're being absurd. The Germanic element that has resulted in the 'lu' part of Lulie means "fame", not warrior. There is no possible etymological rationale for Lulie meaning "warrior maiden". Stop wasting my time.

I am not here just to defend my daughter, i was here to find a meaning to another name, she gave me the site address.
I read what was said and replied to your comment.
And just because you dont know anyone with teenagers who is up at this time, dont mean a thing.
How about you go and ask a old german the meaning to the name Lulie and when you get your answer il be happy to accept your apology.

You're being ridiculous . . .
Let me spell this out for you in nice little words.
Lulie is a nickname for Louise. Louise is a feminine form of Ludwig.
The Germanic element for fame is hlud, which forms the first part of Ludwig.
The Germanic element for war is wig, which forms the second part of Ludwig.
Wig does not appear in the name Lulie, ergo it does not have "war" or "warrior" as one of its linguistic elements.
Lulie also does not follow any recognised Germanic name form, male or female. The only German names with 'lie' endings are feminine pet names for established common names.
There is no evidence, linguistic or otherwise, that Lulie is anything other than a nickname for other names beginning with Lu or Lou, the primary candidates for which are Louise / Ludwig. Those are the facts, regardless of whatever myths or legends might surround the name in peoples' family histories.
As regards the "old German", when Perth is in an appropriate time bracket I will happily contact my grandfather, whose first language is German (he also speaks Czech, Hebrew, Yiddish and English) for confirmation that Lulie is a feminine pet name in German. Not that I expect an apology from you, as I'm sure you wouldn't be interested in accepting anything approaching a fact.

Great, i will look forward to your apology.
Oh, for goodness sake, get over yourself. You can't supply a single shred of evidence to back up your claims. This is an ETYMOLOGY site - if you can't hack it, go away. I'm not going to waste any more time on you.

This is very interesting! Where did you get the meaning "warrior maiden" from? The only book, where I can find this name, says "meaning unknown" (Seibicke HDV). It seems to be extremely rare in Germany. tia!
