Well I speak French so I know perfectly well how to pronounce it with accents present. I've heard it spoken in French and it was not ah-meh-deh. If you're trying to pronounce it without the accents then that's a different story.

Mrs Claire is completely right about the sound of the vowel in French (basically, she is a native speaker). The é represents necessarily [e], that is EH in a figurated English pronunciation.
