Junichi
I was wondering what the Japanese name Junichi (m) means. I'm guessing that the 'Ichi' means 'One', but I'm not sure what the 'Jun' part is here. And if the 'Ichi' part is indeed 'One', does that mean that the name is only given to first born sons or not necessarily?
Thanks!

Thank you both!
There are too many jun's to go into, but google shows Junichi Suwabe is spelt as 諏訪部 順一 where the jun bit is obey or go along with. But of course jun could also be 純 which means pure, and if Junko is any indication, there are probably many many more (see http://tinyurl.com/3cvzrg for Junko)
There is a site teaching Kanji, http://afe.easia.columbia.edu/japan/japanworkbook/language/kanji.htm, which specifically says that ichi in Junichi means first born son (They are talking about 純 pure attached to it).

"Jun" can have various meanings depending on the kanji used to write it. The most common are "pure" and "obedient." And yes, "Ichi" means "one" or "first" and this name would typically be given to a first son.
