Pae
My family name is Pae and there aren't many of us. It's a Scottish name and there are Paes in the USA. One branch of the family migrated to Normandy in the 1800s and spelt the name Phae. When I got in touch with a distant cousin (4th I think) he told me that it was his family's belief that the name derived from Macfie (Macphee, McFie, etc) and that the Mac had been dropped at some point when members of the clan migrated from the Isle of Colonsay to the mainland - maybe when highlanders weren't flavour of the month after the 1745 Jacobite rebellion?

Hi,My maiden name is Pae and we believe our family originated from Scotland. We have heard the name originates from the French word Epee (some kind of fencing sword). My father, Douglas William Pae, did have some contact with a Pae family in Scotland I think.Susan

You might do better to repost this query at this site's companion site for surnames:http://surnames.behindthename.com/Pae is also a Korean surname, by the way, but I'm sure that's a coincidence. :)
