Evan (is there a Old Breton origin? read on...)
The earliest reference i have found to this name dated from around 1500.
I found an unusual explanation for this name once in a Victorian work
Evan is from the Old Breton Aer = Carnage and -uiu = worthy
Comments/ thoughts welcome?

As you probably know it's a Welsh form of John. The Welsh and Breton languages are linked. In Welsh it's proper spelling is Ifan (f is pronounced like a v in Welsh.
