Does anyone have information on why Louella is so common in the Philippines? I don't actually know the statistics of its use, but I do know that all the Louella's I've ever met are either from the Philippines or of Filipina heritage, and searching on Facebook, most of the Louellas look Filipina. Is there a famous namesake there, or some other reason why it's popular?

I had a closer look at Philippine names in general a while ago, and for most of the popular names I could not find any hint at all *why* a particular name became/is popular.
I could not find somebody like a famous movie star (the Pilipinos are very fond of movies) with that name that might be responsible for the use of the name Louella there.
It does not seem to me that Louella is especially popular among the given names in the Philippines. In a file with thousands of names of real people around 20 to 25 years old I can find about 4 times Louella, but 72 times Marissa (rank 30) and 264 times Maricel (rank 1).
But it looks very probable to me that nevertheless the most of all Louellas live in the Philippines because the name is very rare or even nonexistent in all other countries.
Seems to me that they like the name because rhythm and sound are similar to typical words in Philippine languages.
