Growing up my mom told me that it was a variation of the name Delano. She didn't think it had a "meaning". Over the years I've seen several variations but I had never heard or seen the exact name the way my mom spelled it....until I discovered the internet. :)

My mother named me Delaina saying it is Celtic meaning "Dark Beauty."

I'm sure it's just a form of Delana which is a form of Delaney. It could also be this though: Delanna - Italian, soft as wool.

If you're lucky it could be a version of the Irish surname Delaney with the Y amputated. Not a major slice of luck, I grant you.

If you're unlucky, it'll be the imaginative soaring of some twit who thought that (a) Elaina was a name instead of a spelling error, and (b) that sticking a D in front made it look more French.
