That's the first time I hear it can be a male name. As far as I know, Ira is the latinized version of Hera. I have also heard it as short from Irina / Irena.

Valid pointbut in Eastern Europe it is widely used on females - and with a totally different etymology. I think Isis is Croatian, so maybe that's what caused her confusion.
I know I stared blankly at the screen for several minutes, thinking "That gotta be a typo. Of course Ira is female"
