When I was 7-8 years old (in the 1960s), my parents had a lady housekeeper whose name was Mitch. That is the only name by which we addressed her. I have no idea if that was her birth name, or a nickname, and I never asked my parents about her last name. They had hired her and would visit her at her home in town, so surely they knew it. She was probably in her late 50s/early 60s then. I would love to find out what her full name was so that I can visit her grave.
My name is actually Mitchelle (varient of Michelle) and people close to me call me Mitch/Mitchie
