Yiddish name SHNEUR
Does anyone have suggestions about the meaning of Yiddish name SHNEUR?
It is applied to Shneur Zalman of Liadi as if it were Hebrew שני אור, an ungrammatical "Two light".
Less prejudiced (but unauthoritative) sources online suggest that it is the Yiddish take on "Senior".
Are there any other suggestions? Good sources for the latter?

How do you pronounce the name Shneur?
Many years ago I heard the name here in Holland, it was something like: Shnay-oor or Shnae-yoor.

I have often heard Shneur is from French "Seigneur" (lord). So indeed, Senior seems right...
"Two lights" would indeed be Shneorot!
I actually asked my husband. He said, maybe "SECOND light"!

No, not second light - that would be or sheni. Ah well, same base form so it doesn't matter all that much.
