I would like to use the name Zahara for a story. I am naming my characters by name meanings, so I want to know what it means. I saw from one source that it meant butterfly.

Zahara is a variation of the Arabic name Zahra, derivated from zahr, "flower". It is also found as place name (Zahara de los Atunes, e.g.).
Another related name is the Spanish Azahara, from the word Spanish word azahar, "orange blossom, lemon blossom", and this from the Arabic az-zahar, "the blossom", or directly from the Arabic az-zahar (the form Azahara is found, again, as place name from Arabic origin, as in Medina Azahara, e.g.).
