I have a Swedish ancestor born in 1829 in southern Sweden named
Maia
Lisa
. I always assumed the pronunciation was MIE-ah. Is this correct? Might it have been MAY-ah? Thanks!

Yup, it's pronounced MIE-ah. But it's an unusual spelling, it's usually spelled
Maja
in Sweden.

it may have been
Maja

Maia
was a transcription error, I don't know. Thanks!
