A girl at a camp I went to was named Taya Francoise (pronounced TIE-a, as in tie a bow). When I asked her where it was from, she said "I don't know. Mom, what's my name again?" and her mother said immediately, "Welsh. Gaelic." And her mother projected a very learned air, so I didn't question this. Still, I thought that was interesting and made a mental note to look it up when I got home. And I did, and it isn't here.
Is there any truth to Taya's mother's claim, or did she just get impressed by an unreliable baby name book? Thanks.

Can't find anything like this in any of my reference books on Welsh or Celtic names, and I don't think "ay" would be pronounced as English "eye" in those languages. This looks to me like someone was trying to think of Taya as a feminine form for Tadhg, but I doubt if that is really a correct derivation.
