how to pronounce SCHUYLER!

Hi!Does anybody know how to pronounce the name Schuyler - just curious ... AND is it a girl as well as a boy name?thanks

My sons name is Schuyler (pronounced Skyler). People get it wrong all the time and I just tell them the Sch is Sk as in School.

I am so glad this board is here I first saw it while watching the television, there was a model of the name (girl) I am currently pregnant looking for a girls name and whamo!!! If I have a little girl her name will be Schuyler Ann thompson. I got into a physical altercation, must against my having to admit so, with the father of this child needless to say, I hope he rots in jail, And my point of the correct pronounciation was correct. So for all you Nay sayers...
Once and for all lets all say SKY-LER!!!

Schuyler is my middle name and i use it regularly...i pronounce it like Sky-ler, even though the meaning of the name varies depending on how its spelled.

Ehm..i can't see why anyone would name their child Schuyler, it is indeed a Dutch surname, but i can't see how you English guys would pronounce it..the SCH is very hard for you guys!! it's like sggggg, so that will make it Sggg-y-ler or something...
Hm but i can only see it on a boy....Though i really love Skylar on a girl!!!!, it's more English to me....

Schuyler...All the Schuylers that I've seen have been pronounced sky-ler just like Skylar. I've also seen it for both boys and girls. Sissy Spacek's daughter has this name! Great name! :)Willa

It's something like Shoy-lur - not identical to Skylar, as many assume. It's a Dutch surname. Skylar / Skyler is used for boys and girls though.

I have heard it pronounced Skylar (Michael J Fox pronounces his daughter this way) and Shoe-ler but never Shoy-lur as previous person said. I have more often heard Skylar and thought it odd since it is not spelled that way at all..Give the poor kids headaches at the misprounciation of their names
