My husband and I are about to adopt a little boy who will be 1/2 Vietnamese, and are interested in having his middle name reflect that heritage. I had looked online and found the name Cais, which several baby name sites told me means "rejoicer" in Vietnamese. We liked the meaning; we're not sure how it is properly pronounced but were saying it as "Ki-us" (long I). My husband's middle name (and the birth father's first name, though he goes by his last name) is David, so we were thinking of David Cais.

The birth mom, however, wrote us this:
"As for Cais, I'm not so sure that's a Vietnamese name. In our language, we don't really ever use the letter S. I asked my mom and she said that Cai is a name, but not Cais. And depending on the accent marks applied to the name, it could either mean arguing/talking-back or vegetable. With that in mind, I don't know if you'd want to keep Cais."
