The history of -lyn names
I was under the impression that adding lyn to the end of random names was a fairly modern phenomenon until I met my friend's 92 year old grandmother whose name is Gracelyn. I made this comment to her grandmother that it was really interesting to hear Gracelyn because it is so trendy at the moment and she told me she was named after her own mother, Gracelyn.
So, I was wondering, how early on were people adding -lyn to the end of random names? Is there a tracable history of it?
