I'm wondering if anyone has any information of the use of Sabra as a girl's name. I know that it is a slang term for a native-born Israeli Jew (it comes from a kind of cactus), but I've recently met several women in their fifties to eighties (i.e. older than the founding of Israel), who are not Jewish, named Sabra. Does anyone know where this use came from?
