The etymology of the male name Carsilius.
Does anyone happen to have any information regarding the etymology of the male name Carsilius? I've encountered it several times in (well-off) Dutch families from the Middle Ages, but I haven't been able to find out where it comes from. It might be a Latinised form of the Germanic name Karsten (or of the Arbic name Karsil, I think - I believe I once read about something like that).
Spelling variants include:
Carcelius
Carselius, Karselius
Carsil, Karsil
Carsilius, Karsilius
Carsilus
I'm curious whether you guys can come up with something! :)
Thank you for your time. :)
