Lydia's meaning (help settle a dispute)
Me and Cristy over at the Opinion Board are having a friendly disagreement. I say that Lydia means "of Lydia", like BtN says, but Cristy says that Lydia could also mean "standing pool" or "beauty". Who's correct? And, btw, what *does* Lydia mean? Not the name, but the place itself.Miranda

Lydia means "cultured".

Biblically, all that I have gotten from the name was that Lydia was a lady who sold purple. Purple? Sometimes meaning faith, some say beauty.

I know Lydia is in the bible...Ezekial as a region in Asia Minor, but also in Acts of the Apostles as a woman's name. The meaning of the name would be helpful.

A woman from Lydia. The name has come to mean a cultured woman.
This is from a site with a HUGE search base. remember in different countries names mean different things. Also, different spellings of a name can mean different things.I JUST LOOKED INTO THIS ONE MORE THAN ONE SITE AND ON ONE THAT TELLS YOU WHAT IT MEANS IN DIFFERENT CULTURES.EVERYONE OF THEM SAY IT MEANS A WOMAN FROM LYDIA. THERE ARE A TON OF DIFFERENT CULTURES THAT USE IS AND A TON OF WAYS TO SPELL IT. HERE ARE JUST THE RUSSIAN ONES.
LIDIJA, LIDIA, LIDIYA, LIDOCHKA, LIDA: from Lydia
ALL HAVE THE SAME MEANING. So my point of saying different cultures put different meanings with it JUST WENT OUT THE WINDOW LMAO

Nevermind.Cristy pointed out that she asked this question not long ago and received an answer from Nanaea. Cristy found her message proving this. Sorry, I truly didn't remember that Cristy had asked this question before.Miranda
