ORIGIN OF NAME MIXENDA
RE Origin of the given name MIXENDA. MIXENDA DIX NOTT is my ancestor born in America, c. 1766, who married into the Stanley family. Stanley can easily be traced back to England. I am not yet an expert, and cannot trace her. I cannot find the name MIXENDA anywhere in any name search engine. Given name: MIXENDA DIX NOTT She comes up in yaho and goodle as a listed geneology entry, but I don't see any ancestors. Whatever clues you can give me would be appreciated. Sincerely, Barbara Lou Townsend

The ancestry of Mixenda Nott has proven elusive, as many have unsuccessfully searched for records. A research effort by a Mr. George Hall of New York in 1989 has produced some interesting results. On the records of Mixenda Nott, he reports ". . . no record of a Mixanda Nott, exists among the various listings in the i(n)dicies of the names Nott, and the cross-referencing at the state library is very comprehensive and state-wide."Following is my interpretation of the records obtained by G. Hall:William and Thankful Ford were recorded in the West Avon, Connecticut church records as having five or six children:
John, born Sept. 1752, baptized Oct. 1, 1752.
Elisabeth, born Jan. 1755, baptized Jan. 19, 1755.
Mary, born June 1757, baptized July 3, 1757.
Ann, born Mar. 1760, baptized Apr. 6, 1760.
Joseph, baptized Apr. 10, 1762.
Male child, born Mar. 1763.
All of the children in the record were baptized within a few weeks of their birth, except possibly Joseph. Joseph is probably the child identified as being born in 1763. The error is probably one of transcription when the index was created.William Ford died on Aug. 30, 1763 and was recorded in the West Avon records. In July, 1766 Thankful Ford, Widow had a female child. (In the index this birth is recorded for a male child but the original record quite clearly shows the child to be female. On Aug. 24, 1766, Mixanda Ford, the daughter of Thankful was baptized. A few months earlier, Thankful was admitted to the church (Apr. 20 or May 25, 1766).The records of the Stanleyville Cemetery show that Mixenda is buried next to Thomas. Her tombstone is not present at the gravesite (1994).If it is correct that Mixanda was the daughter of Thankfull Rowlandson Ford it is not difficult to assume that Charles Nott was her father. It is known that Thankful married Charles Nott. It is also known that Mixanda's middle name of Dix is the same as Charles's mother, Sarah Dix.Good luck with your research.Frank

Belated thank you for your msg. It was relayed to me somewhere, like ancestry.com I hadn't realized it was posted here on this name site. It does look like her surname was, or should have been, listed as Nott. If you happen to ever come across the origin of the name Mixenda and Mixanda, they are both there in our family tree.
Sincere Thanks,
Barbara Lou Townsend
