Where does the name Ringo come from? The only person I found so far is Ringo Starr, who seems to have gotten his stage name from his "rings". Was he the first to be using this nickname? I found some people having Ringo as their last name as well.

In Japanese, 林檎 (ringo) means "apple". There's a Japanese singer who uses Shiina Ringo (family name, given name) as her stage name, supposedly because when she blushed as a child, her cheeks looked like red apples.
