Re: About Yalissa

Where have you come into contact with this name?
I can't find any reliable indication that Yalissa means "a beautiful flower" in modern Hebrew. It is possible it is related to a word for a particular species of flowering plant, but we'd have to have someone who is an expert on modern Hebrew answer that.
To me this just looks like a Hispanic-American respelling of Jalisa, which is itself an African-American creation popularized by the television program A Different World.

As far as I know, Yalissa doesn't mean anything in Hebrew. And if it is a particular species of flower, it isn't a well known one, though I'm no flower expert.
Thanks for your thoughts
I have read this name on a Dutch website about names. The meaning wasn't listed there, but I liked the name and searched on the rest of the internet. In the Netherlands this name is used, but it is rare.
