I thought it was pronounced CON-el, but then I heard it (as a last name) pronounced cun-NEL.
How's it generally pronounced as a first name?

Connell is rarely used as a first name in Ireland. The surname is prn. CONN-el. The emphasis on the first syllabyl is very slight.

There is also a first name Conal which is prn CO-nel.

I don't really know, but I've always pronounced it CON-el.
