Anne Rice drew upon numerous historical and legendary sources in the creation of names for her vampires. You may want to consider getting this book:
*The Vampire Companion: The Official Guide to Anne Rice's the Vampire Chronicles*, by Katherine Ramsland, Revised Edition 1995
"Hundreds of entries discuss a wide range of subjects related to Anne Rice's series of vampire novels, encompassing information on characters, themes, locales, historical background, and symbolism in the novels. A compendium of information on Anne Rice's successful vampire books includes information on characters, names, places, key events, historical and literary inspirations, symbols, and themes from the series." A lamia was a woman (mythological, luckily) with the body of a snake and a personality to match. Of course, this doesn't mean that it's a name.
