I cannot find the exact word, though it was probably a Latin word that someone found that resembles "Antonius" by accident. The books I have that are written by authors who should be real experts in language all say that the original meaning of Antonius is unknown, and that it probably was originally an Etruscan word. Unfortunately, Etruscan for the most part is still an undeciphered language.

That's what I have read also. I know that the spelling Anthony is inspired by mistaking linking it to the Greek Anthos (?) meaning 'to blossom'
