Sorry, I know this site is mainly about first names, but i was just wondering if anybody could tell me where my last name came from. My last name is BYRNE. I know that it is Irish, as my grandparents are Irish, but I need to know a little a bit about it, where it was derived from etc.

According to one course, Byrne, or Broin, means "raven" (http://www.xs4all.nl/~bultman/BB/surnames.html). According to another source it means "bright" (http://www.xde.net/babypix/BabyNames/boysa-i.html).
